The Rapture in the CD101 Big Room - 2.7.07

Lesley James: We are live in the CD101 Big Room! With The Rapture! Woo! Oh, I love it. We have Matty, we have Luke, we have Gabriel and we have Vito. Guys, thank you so much for coming in today.
The Rapture: You’re welcome.
LJ: I know you were traveling from Indy last night, happy to hear you got here safe.
TR: Yeah, no spin-outs.
LJ: Yeah.
TR: Only good times.
LJ: Alright. Well, you’re playing a show tonight at the Basement, you have a new album out. Congrats on that. Pieces of the People We Love on Universal/Motown. You ready to just jump right into one? I know we’re all looking forward to hearing something.
TR: We’re ready to jump.
LJ: Alright. Let’s hear it for The Rapture, live in the CD101 Big Room!
TR: (plays the song “The Devil”)
LJ: Playing a CD101 show tonight at the Basement, The Rapture. Live here in the CD101 Big Room. Quick question for you guys, I noticed it’s been a couple of years since you put out records. You put out Echoes in ’03 and Pieces of the People We Love this past fall. What have you been doing? Luke, I heard something about you taking up fishing.
TR: Yeah, I got a preset here on my guitar thing called “Tarpin”. So that’s…
LJ: A tarpin?
TR: Yeah. But yeah, I had a little boy too.
LJ: Oh, congrats!
TR: So I’ve been experiencing all that. It’s pretty awesome.
LJ: Yeah?
TR: Yeah. I’ve been busy. Me. Personally.
TR: I think the rest of us, we’ve all just, we didn’t want to just more or less just take our time and really make sure the songs were stuff that we were feeling and just really excited by and we wrote a lot before getting into the studio. Its just, we wanted to take our time and get it right because you know, in the end, people don’t remember how it takes between records they remember how good they are or not, so we just wanted to make sure we got that done.
LJ: Well then I got to say the record is fantastic.
TR: Well, thank you.
LJ: Pieces of the People We Love on Universal/Motown. I got a question from a listener Carrie, hi Carrie, um…“How much did The Rapture’s sound devolve during the making of Pieces of the People We Love from the last record Echoes?”
TR: Not at all. That’s hard to answer from the inside perspective I guess. She could probably tell us better. But um, I don’t know. I mean I think, the first record we just stretched out a lot and we didn’t know what we were doing at all and we just wanted to kind of feel that out I think. Make it in color instead of black and white.
LJ: Great. You ready to do another one?
TR: Yeah, let’s go.
LJ: Alright. Rapture, live in the CD101 Big Room!
TR: (plays the song “Pieces of the People We Love”)
LJ: “Pieces of the People We Love,” that is the title track to their new album on Universal/Motown. The Rapture, live in the CD101 Big Room. Playing a show tonight at the Basement, just a few tickets available. A few left so go pick them up. Now, it seems like you guys have influenced some of these…some new upcoming bands.
TR: The upstarts.
LJ: I’m sorry?
TR: The upstarts.
LJ: Yes.
TR: Alright.
LJ: Okay. Now, can you tell us a band or two that you’re fond of at the moment? Matty?
TR (Matty): Uh…The Presets, from Australia.
LJ: Okay.
TR (Matty): We were touring with them earlier in the fall and they’re fantastic.
LJ: Excellent. Luke?
TR (Luke): I would say The Knife. I like Love Is All, the band. They’re good. Good bands.
LJ: Okay. Gabriel or Vito?
TR: Gabe’s doing calisthenics right now. Gabe, what do you like? He doesn’t like anything.
(Gabe is inaudible in the backgroud)
LJ: We got you.
(more from inaudible Gabe)
LJ: Excellent. And I see you guys are playing Coachella in a couple of months. Awesome, awesome festival.
TR: Yeah, it will be our third time this time.
LJ: Third time, wow.
TR: Yeah, we’re Coachella veterans.
LJ: Well, what’s the best thing about playing a festival like that, is it the audience? Is it, you know, mingling with the other bands or getting to actually see other bands perform?
TR: Yeah, for me that’s…I mean, I’m stoked to see Rage Against The Machine because I was really geeked out on that first record when I was 18. I used to drive around in my dad’s car at full blast listening to that. It was fun.
TR: I’m not going to be anywhere near that.
LJ: No?
TR: I’ll be on the other side of the festival.
LJ: The dance tent, right?
TR: Yeah, I’m going to be in the dance tent. Listening to like, Paul Van Dyk or something like that.
LJ: That’s right. Okay. One more for us, guys?
TR: Yeah sure yeah.
LJ: Excellent. Rapture playing a CD101 show tonight at the Basement. Live in the CD101 Big Room!
TR: (plays the song "Whoo! Alright - Yeah...Uh Huh.")
LJ: Its one big dance party here in the CD101 Big Room with The Rapture. Guys, thank you so much for coming in today. Matty, Luke, Gabriel, and Vito. Pick up their new album Pieces of the People We Love its on Universal/Motown Records. And tonight, make sure you come out to the Basement. Rapture at the Basement tonight. One more time!
