Peter Bjorn & John in the CD101 Big Room - 5.7.2007
Andyman: We
are live in the CD101 Big Room and we are here with Peter and Bjorn.
Peter, Bjorn, and John play at the Wexner Center tonight. Guys, thank
you very much for being here.
Peter, Bjorn, and John: Thank you. Thanks for having us.
AD: Oh, it’s darn nice to have you here. Tonight the show is at the
Wexner Center for the Arts and we’re excited about you being here. Thank
you, thank you, thank you. I cannot say that enough and I think I would
probably, it would be best, to have you jump right into your first song.
What do you guys think? Peter and Bjorn in the CD101 Big Room.
PBJ: Thank you
Peter &
Bjorn play "Young Folks" AD: Very excellent. That’s terrific. Thank you guys, very much. The
show’s at Wexner Center tonight. The album’s called Writer’s Block.
Congratulations on your record. It’s been out a better part of the year,
right? Better part of a year.
PBJ: Over here, I think.
AD: Over here?
PBJ: Its just February.
AD: Yeah?
PBJ: Yeah, but that’s just this year.
AD: But you’ve put it out, you’ve had it out. You’ve had the record done for a
while.
PBJ: Since May in Sweden.
AD: Yeah? Now how many times have you made it over to the US?
PBJ: This is like the first proper tour. We did a couple of gigs in New York, LA
before, but that was more, you know, starting up. So this is the first proper
tour.
AD: So this is your, you could say this is the first year of your life you’ve
ever come over here and been part of the US? Or have you had further experiences
we’re not aware of?
PBJ: Been to Hollywood here.
AD: Yeah?
PBJ: A couple times.
AD: So when you think of, what is your impression, like what do you think of
musically when you think of music in the United States?
PBJ: There’s a lot of good music. A lot of good heritage, you know, the history
of rock and roll. We like that.
AD: I was
looking through some of the stuff on the web about you guys. Your
influences such as the Stones, Guns N’ Roses, and Ride and I was
wondering, yeah that’s on a web page, who do you think of when you think
of who’s influenced you and it doesn’t have to be European or American,
just who comes to mind first?
PBJ: That’s hard to say. There’s so much, Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan,
and that sort of stuff. Yeah, a lot of old music.
AD: Yeah, well I can see that too. And when I saw Stones Roses and Riot
I thought, yeah, I can hear that, but I was thinking, you know, Velvet
Underground definitely. Well is it terrific to have you hear and again
their record is Writer’s Block at the Wexner Center tonight. Let’s hear
it for Peter and Bjorn, Peter, Bjorn, and John.
PBJ: Thank you so much. Thank you. Peter & Bjorn play "Amsterdam"
AD: Over the last year,
you’ve had a lot of success, and congratulations on it, and a lot of people have
discovered you and, well, what’s been your favorite part of the last year and a
half?
PBJ: Ehh…
AD: I could give a multiple choice? Has it been touring and getting in front of
people?
PBJ: Quitting the day job.
AD: Quitting the day job? What were your day jobs?
PBJ: I had a couple, you know, teaching, selling books, studying. That’s not a
job, but still.
AD: Teaching and selling books? Did you sell books to the kids you taught?
Because I like that.
PBJ: No, no.
AD: See what you need is this book, kid, and you’ll know everything. Bjorn, what
about you? What was your day job?
PBJ: My day job, I did this, what do you call it? Marketing? Calling people that
don’t want to be called.
AD: Telemarketing, now that’s a call I’d love to get at dinnertime. That would
be great.
PBJ: And I also was a guide at this cross-country skiing museum.
AD: A guide at a cross-country skiing museum? That’s awesome.
PBJ: No.
AD: No? That was in Sweden, right? Cross-country museum? I guarantee you there’s
none of these here. What were you selling on the phone? I’m just curious.
PBJ: I
don’t know I think it was like, radio, like this, like I don’t know what
you do, you ask questions and make things sell.AD: Oh, you were doing a
survey?
PBJ: I guess so. I can’t remember actually. I try to repress that. AD:
I’m glad you got to get away from that. That’s good, that’s good.
Playing tonight at the Wexner Center. Once again, let’s hear it again
for Peter Morén and Bjorn Yttling. I get it right?
PBJ: Yeah.
AD: Myttling?
PBJ: Yttling, yeah.
AD: I knew I was going to screw it up. Give them a big hand. One more
song for us?
PBJ: OK.
AD: Excellent, CD101.
PBJ: Thank you, thanks.
AD: Let’s hear it for
them Peter, Bjorn, and John tonight at the Wexner, Peter and Bjorn, thank you
both. That was terrific. I also want to thank you. You both had a song where you
whistled this afternoon. Thanks for bringing the whistle back to pop music. I
like that. Give them a hand.
PBJ: No problem.
AD: Go pick up the record. It is called Writer’s Block. See them tonight
at the Wexner Center. One more hand. Thank you, thank you guys. I’m going to
hand it back over to command central.
