Lesley: All right, we are live in the CD101 Big Room with
Editors! Wooo!
Clapping and cheering
Lesley: Guys, thanks a lot for coming in today. Playing tonight at the Newport
Music Hall with Stellastar, Mobius, and South, right?
Editors: That’s right, yeah.
Lesley: All right
Editors: It’ll be good.
Lesley: Tickets are still available, a few are left, so make sure you get some
and come see the show tonight.
Editors: There’s only about 400 left. Heh heh.
Lesley: Oh yeah? We got Tom and Chris here, now where’s, uh, Russell and Ed?
Editors: Um…uh...in the shower. Probably in the shower. Not together…not
together…yeah.
Lesley: Ahhh. Takin a nap, huh? Right…
Editors: Getting a massage. Facials.
Lesley: All right, all right. You want to start us off with a song?
Editors: We’d love too
Lesley: Editors, live in the CD101 Big Room.
Some song I don’t know the name of
Song Ends. Clapping and Cheering.
Editors: mmm. Thank you.
Lesley: All right! Editors Live in the CD101 Big Room. All right, thank you
fellas. All right you’re from Birmingham, right?
Editors: Ah well the band kinda is.
Lesley: Right but you’re all from different…cities
Editors: Spot on. Round the country.
Lesley: In England, right? How did you all get together?
Editors: We…we um, met at University, but I’ve got better croak on that…heh heh
(2nd editor) Me too actually
(1st editor) heh… sorry, just waking up. Yeah we all met at University five
years ago and were friends, all ended up living together, and we realized we all
played different instruments and kinda set up a little studio in Russell’s
bedroom and uh…started making music together, basically.
Lesley: All right
Editors: So when we graduated everyone moved to Birmingham and um…carried on.
About a year later we got a deal.
Lesley: And you decided yeah like we want to form a band…or?
Editors: this burning desire!
Lesley: Ok. Well I hear…well I was reading something about you…you guys were in
a music technology class together? Is that how you all got kinda hooked up?
Editors: That was what we were doing at University, yeah.
Lesley: All right. Great. The Back Room was the debut album, it’s an amazing
record I just loved it. It was just released here a couple weeks ago at the end
of March. Now its been out some time…its been out in the UK some time though,
correct?
Editors: Since July
Lesley: Since July, and already it has gone gold, so congratulations on that,
right?
Editors: Its gone platinum!
Lesley: Platinum! Really! All right see…
Clapping and cheering
Editors: There you go!
Lesley: Well that’s even better! That’s even better so congratulations. Awesome,
awesome…alright now have you even started to work on new material yet?
Editors: Yeah a little bit here and there…obviously we have been paying quite a
lot of attention here and paying quality time in America this year and we’re
going back for the festivals but we’ve always started writing new songs and
towards the end of the year we’ll start demo-ing and recording and working to
the next one…we’ll play 10 new songs tonight as well.
Lesley: Oh wow, great. Excellent, excellent….alright you ready to do another
one? Alright…
Cheers and clapping
Editors: Yeah I think so…1,2,3…Munich…need a set list…1,2,3,4…
Lesley: Alright…Editors live here in the CD101 Big Room…awesome, thanks guys…the
Back Room is the debut album, playing tonight at the Newport Music Hall with
Stellastar, thanks a lot for coming down here today…I have a question about the
Editors, the name, is there a story behind the name?
Editors: Uh, not a very impressive story…um we had a couple of bad names
beforehand which we didn’t like, when we got a record deal…ya know, our name has
always been about a kind of stamp or a badge for our music, its not what the
word literally means…that’s why there’s no the, we’re called Editors and that’s
the name of our band.
Lesley: And uh, before that I hear it was Snowfield, maybe? Is that correct?
Editors: Yeah, we’ve had others as well, we won’t go into that.
Lesley: Alright, alright. Well the Back Room…now in the song Camera, I notice
the Back Room is mentioned…it’s about hiding our feelings and our secrets…can
you tell us about that? The Back Room itself?
Editors: I mean that song was very important in the recording the album…its what
the centerpiece of the record and the title of the album comes from it…but um
yeah within the song everyone has got that place where they put things you don’t
want people to see or be real…or not…and that’s what it kind of touches on I
guess.
Lesley: Alright, great…one more for us?
Cheering and clapping
Editors: Yeah…we’re gonna…we’ve never done this live in front of people before,
so it could all go wrong…and it’s not our song.
Lesley: Alright, Editors, live in the CD101 Big Room.
Song – Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads
Cheering and Clapping
Lesley: Editors, live in the CD101 Big Room…first time you guys actually played
that, huh?
Editors: In front of an audience, we’ve done it for like an actual recording but
we’ve never done it in front of people.
Lesley: Wow, that was fantastic. Amazing. Thanks a lot guys for coming in, Tom
and Chris. Editors, live in the Big Room…debut album is the Back Room, go pick
it up! You will not be disappointed, one of my favorite records this year, it is
absolutely amazing. Playing tonight at the Newport with Stellastar.
Editors: And South, and Mobius.
Lesley: And South and Mobius, right…it’s going to be a great show…thanks again
for coming in, let’s give them one more hand.
Cheering and Clapping
Lesley: And we turn it back over to command central.
