Augustana in the CD101 Big Room - 3.4.06

Andyman:  We are live in the CD101 Big Room.  Smooth live radio right here.  Augustana’s here with us.  Let’s give them a hand for being here.  Playing tonight at the basement.  Should be a heck of a show.  The Damnwells are playing.  One of the guys in the Damnwells is having a birthday.

Augustana:  Yeah it’s Ted’s birthday.

AM:  I have a feeling that tonight might get a little crazy.

AU:  Tonight could be a little crazy.

AM:  That’s a good thing and actually the show is going to be a little on the early side so I believe that the music’s gonna start around 8 o’clock tonight.  Don’t do the late and dark night thing.  Come out early.  Rock out a little early.  It’ll be great.  It’s really nice of you guys to come by.  Thank you very much.  I hope that this is the first of many visits to the radio station and I know you got some songs to play for us so I say we just jump right into that and we’ll have some fun this afternoon.  Let’s give them a big hand.  Augustana in the CD101 Big Room.

Bullets

AM:  Augustana in the CD101 Big Room.  Excellent.  Tonight’s the big night at the Basement.  The Damnwells opening the show and the music like I said starts about 8 o’clock.  Should be excellent.  The record All the Stars and Boulevards came out in September.  Congratulations on that.  How’s it been touring this record?

AU:  It’s been good.  We were out for about we were out last year.  We’ve been to Columbus.  I think this is our fourth time back.  We love it here actually.  There’s this place down the street we were just talking about on High street.

AM:  Little Brothers is were I saw you play.

AU:  Yeah but Barley’s is what me and Andy were talking about earlier.  They got the best appetizers in the whole country.  We get excited everytime we get to come back here because we just go and eat and eat.

AM:  Oh that’s awesome.

AU:  So go to Barley’s.  At least some cheesesticks or something.

AM:  And they make their own beer which is a beautiful beautiful thing.

AU:  They got great beer there, yeah.

AM:  How do you feel about the record this far away from it?  It came out.  There’s all kinds of anxiety after you’ve recorded it.  Trying to get the record company to put it out and everything happening there.  Now you’ve had six months to go back and look to the record again or listen to it.  The music has continued to live and you’ve probably changed along the way since the record came out.  How do you feel about it now, six months after release?

AU:  I think we still feel proud of what we did and what we made in the studio but I think there’s definitely a certain.  You never want to give up.  You never want to stop and become complacent so I think when you’re on the road, every night’s a chance to do something different, play the song a little bit different, or step it up in any kind of way and so that’s what we try to do.  I don’t know if we do it successfully but we give a shot.

AM:  When was the last time you listened to the record?  I’m just curious.

AU:  A long time ago.  I haven’t listened to it in a long time because if you’re playing it everyday it’s like.  And you kind of get used to the live versions you’re playing and then you go back and listen and you’re like what is that.  I don’t even know what that is.

AM:  Well the show tonight at the Basement.  There are some tickets still available.  It’s so great to have you here in town and have you come by and do the Big Room for us.  You got another song?

AU:  Yeah.

AM:  Alright let’s hear it here for Augustana here in the CD101 Big Room.

AU:  All the Stars and Boulevards.

Stars and Boulevards

AM:  Augustana here in the CD101 Big Room.  Show tonight at the Basement.  The record is in stores called All the Stars and Boulevards.  Nice song by the way.

AU:  Thank you very much.

AM:  Oh, you’re very welcome.  I was checking out your van.  Sweet van that you guys are touring in.

AU:  We took out the benches in the back and created this back lounge.  Touring in a van is definitely very interesting and uncomfortable sometimes.  You got your feet on different benches and your laying in someone’s lap.  It’s crazy so yeah we got this back lounge and we got this Persian carpet down.  It’s great man.  We got a curtain up and a TV.

AM: You got the xbox rocking?

AU: Yeah, we got a hold of that 360 so that’s been fun.

AM: When you got rid of those benches, how’d that go?

AU:  Actually, if you don’t tell anybody.  We were in Sacramento about a week and a half ago playing a show over there and we just went over to this corporate building parking lot like across the street from the venue and just got them out really quick and just left them in the parking lot.  We saw a security guard and we were like come on let’s go.  Big rush and it was really cool so that’s about as dangerous as we get.

AM:  A little chase action there.  Running from the security man.  Alright, they’re outlaws too folks.  I like that.  Alright, the show with the Damnwells tonight.  Excellent and there are tickets still available.  You ready with another song?

AU:  Yeah.  Make sure you get there early for the Damnwells because they’re an amazing band and they will not be a disappointment.

AM:  Yeah, expect music to start at 8 o’clock and lets here it for Augustana here in the CD101 Big Room.

AU:  This is a song called Sunday Best.

Sunday Best

AM: Playing in the CD101 Big Room, Augustana playing tonight in the Basement The Damnwells on the bill as well.  Out touring the release in September called All the Stars and Boulevards.  This is great you guys ended up on epic records I’m sure the last year has been a whirl wind.  You probably got to do stuff you never thought you’d get to do, you’ve probably met some people.  Actually, I heard you made it to the Grammy’s and went to a party.  I heard you met Jet at the Grammy party.  How’d that go?

AU: Yeah.  Actually it was pretty rad.  They were exactly what we thought they would be like.  You know, we see them show up at this EMI party and we’re like “hey!” and we didn’t know them and they didn’t know us and they were giving us hugs.  We don’t even know each other and the drummer goes right over to this ice sculpture it’s at this bar and he puts his mouth on it and starts kissing it or something.  The things like four feet tall and huge and thick and oh no!  This thing just falls over and crashes over the bar and all the lights go out and stuff and we were like that was so rock and roll!  That was exactly what needed to happen. It was great.

AM: You gotta love rock and roll.  That’s awesome!  Alright, I think we got another one that we’re gonna do here.  Let’s hear it for them, Augustana in the CD101 Big Room.
